Alt going out triggers ABS???

  • Alt going out triggers ABS???

    well my alternater went out but before it did, the check gauges light came on when i was driving home from the movies, about 2 miles from home, the ABS INOP light came on. why did this light come on???

    I believe it does it since it knows the chargin system is not functional so it take spower for non-essential areas. ABS is a good safety feature but not necessary.

      Yeah....my alt went out and by the time it was almost gone pretty much all the warning lights were on and at the very end it down shifted to 3rd for no reason....then the headlights went out....it was bad...luckily it was easily fixed..this was after 70 miles of the check gauges light being on...

        yeah, it starts at the least needed things then works it's way down when your battery is dying. First to go will be the dimming of your lights, then cruise control, ABS, air bags and such, on down to power steering....all of the above happened to me! It's pretty smart, these cars!!!
