• broken fuel gauge = $500+ parts ?

the little gauge that tells me if the tank is full or empty (duh) is very sparatic, so i took the car to an automechanic to check it out. He says I need a
"level sender fuel modular" & "level sensor dial"
however he wanted $1400 for the parts and install. I laughed at him, and asked when can I come get my car, he says he wants $250 to give me my car back... shady b.s.

So there is this other guy who says if i bring him the parts he will install it for $100. So I need to know where I can get these parts:
"level sender fuel modular" (the pump is working i guess...but they are sold together)
& a "level sensor dial".

HOWEVER im not sure if i need one of the two, or both. would anyone know?

Its probly so expensive because he has to drop your gas tank. you can check www.gmpartsdirect.com for the cheapest parts.

this guy is jerking you around, more than likely the sending unit in the tank is bad...and yes it does come as an assembly with the pump,..it will run you a few hundred for the assembly if you buy it and about $500 or more if you get it from the shop doing the repairs, labor is about 4 hours book time to remove and replace the pump. And $250 to tell you what the problem is...I could have done it in 10 minutes with a scanner and only charged you $80..not my fault there is a 1 hour minimum charge for labor

you need a fuel pump, all of these parts come as one assembly called fuel pump. you can't get them separately. the cheapest auto parts fuel pump i've found is $385.

I've got an OEM one from an 01 Firebird, 14k miles, removed in perfect working order. Includes all eletrical hook-ups including fuel level sender and pick-up sock. Even a new gasket that goes around the top! (not pictured)

I uploaded a pic for ya here.... http://www.thenebula.com/carpics/pics4/DSC00121.JPG

well I just got word that the only part I need is the level sensor, and i guess my pump is fine.

I picked one up at the pontiac dealership, it was $107. well lets hope it works!

assuming you used search to find this, you should have found another thread too (im not about to go find it ), for the older ones i think you had to buy the whole assembly. meaning no
