Click on my homepage and check out my dyno runs. Tell me what you think. Are my gains average, better than expected, or just plain crappy. Keep in mind, those are rear wheel numbers!!!
I really hoped for a little bit better numbers, like 140 rwhp or so but I guess the high miles cancel out my mods. :(

I'm not looking to make a monster motor out of my daily driver. It's getting me from here to there. I thought everyone here might like to know about this programmer. Lots of people talk about gains but never do thorough testing on them. My motor is an underdog and the 3.4 community needs to stick together and find out what works best for us.
In my opinion, for a plug in application, an additional 6 HP at the rear wheels isn't too bad. I'm not as concerned with my max numbers as I am with the improvement over stock. It also turns the fans on at a lower temperature, firms up the shifts, and removes the speed limiter. I think it's a pretty good deal. Kind of like a 4-in-1 printer! :D You have to weigh the total gains (trans, engine, and speed governor) to appreciate what it can do.

I got mine off ebay for about $300 once you account for shipping.
To change pace, and possibly forums, would anyone like to purchase it from me (jhkcam, wink, wink)? I'm getting married this summer and I need to quit modding my car and get it close to stock. Any reasonable offers will be entertained.

If you got it off ebay and the person who used it on their car before you didnt clear his car out of it then it wont work right for you, thats what i heard
Longtubes, true duals, ram air, caspers tps tec, ls1 26lb injectors, supersix powerpack, heads milled .020, comp cam .507 220/224 114 ls, forged internals and chromeoly pushrods, bored .030 over, tb spacer, tranny built with stiffer springs and kevlar bands, bigger servo, transgo stage 3 shift kit, edge 3600 stall, 1 pc aluminum ds, 3.73 superior gears, lsd rear ,custom pcm tuning, walbro 255 in tank,
The way I've explained it to others is like this:
The HPP "marries" itself to the car it's program is on. It won't "cheat" with another car until the program is removed from the first car. For example, if I programmed my car and then sold the HPP to someone else, it wouldn't work on the second car. And, yes, if anyone wants to take it off my hands, I will un-program my car so it will work on yours. I'm sure Hypertech thought of this little idea long before we ever did.
It did give a noticeable improvement in power. I guess when you're only putting ~120 horses to the ground, you notice a 6 HP increase!!! :D

I had 115hp at the wheels from my 3.4 auto and with my intake and fastchip I can guarantee I'm putting more that 126 to the ground now. For 300 you can get a fast chip, and they're AWESOME.
Updated dyno numbers ARE coming soon...
I sort of did the dyno for two reasons. One, to measure actual gains produced from a modification. Opinions are found everywhere. Test and tune is where the real gains are. Two, to convince myself that the 3.4 isn't worth dumping a whole lot of money into. It's not real fast and it never will be. It is however, fun to drive and economical. ;)
To make the numbers I put up seem worse, I stayed around to see who was dynoing next. Turns out a 2002 SCCA Z28 was coming in to tune his computer. He could only modify the brake system and the exhaust behind the cats. He had straight pipes (true duals) and an x-pipe. I think he was there working on some secret stuff that I shouldn't tell!! ;) :D Nonetheless, he put down 310 rwhp!!! That's nearly three times as much as I'm putting to the pavement. So, I'm going to keep my car and drive it til the wheels fall off and save some money for a real motor, an LS1.
There were two Rustang guys in the shop working on their cars while we were there. They kind of laughed and chuckled while I was making pulls. It was funny to see how quiet they got when the Z28 came in and made a lot of noise. 310 rwhp!!! I just can't get over that. A completely stock motor with nothing but an exhaust. Amazing! Now, if I can only come up with 20K!

Ok I lied, dyno results aren't coming soon. I didn't know it was so damned expensive to dyno your car around here, 120 bucks!
When I go home, this new shop just opened and is putting a dyno is so over the summer I will be able to dyno my car for a lot cheaper, if not free.
You are right Harbin, our motors aren't worth dumping a lot of money into. They are fun little motors, I know the happiest moment in my life is when I'm sliding around a turn with the tires spinning, but these motors way expensive. My dad was talkin to a guy from GM, he said the 3.4L is the most expensive motor they make. If it ever needs rebuilding, its not even worth it. Might as well buy a V8 because its only a little more $$.

If, when, I do the V8 swap, I probably wouldn't put on the Z28 badges. It wouldn't be a true Z28. It'd be a clone of some sort. Plus, I wouldn't be doing it to impress anyone else. I love that V8 rumble (got a 54 Chevy pick-up hot rod in the garage) and it would be done for pure self-satisfaction.
Back to tech talk.
I've only got a Walker dual outlet muffler welded in. The welding job is horrible, I could have done a much better job. Would switching to a true cat-back gain me any power? I seem to believe that a 3" is a little too big. What about a 2.75"? Does anybody make such a thing or would I have to get some custome work done?
Or, if behind the cat is decent, should I try to find some headers? I know this little 3.4 would sound pretty mean with some headers! :D Plus, it'd make changing the plugs a whole lot easier. I think I could stop modding if I got headers. It'd be a got stopping point. ;)
Just curious.

Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
