  • Had a thought...

    You know those spray cans that shoot out air and you use them to clean dust out of places (e.g. your keyboard). What if you sprayed that into your intake? It is compressed air. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

    It's mostly carbon dioxide, you can tell because the can gets so cold when you spray it. If you want to shoot CO2 down your intake, go for it, but I'm gonna stand back and listen for the knocks... [img]graemlins/evilgrin.gif[/img]

      yeah that will work as soon as you find a volunteer to sit in your engine bay and spray as you are going down the track. and if you find a midget, maybe he has a midget friend that will drive the car for ya--wieght reduction.
      6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

        With 300-400cfm of air traveling through the throttle body the tiny amount of gas coming from this can isn't enough to do diddly squat.

        Go take a physics class. :D

            Alright, but at least shoot in a gas that can combust, not one that stops combustion. For the amount of gas we're talking about adding to see power, you'd need a dozen midgets shooting a dozen scuba tanks of oxygen straight down your intake. I'm not sure if it's legal to have that many little people on your hood, but it might be worth a track test... [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

              I always thought it would be cool to put an air compressor in the trunk. When its charged, rigit so it'll pressurize the intake like a supercharger... Probably an awful lot of rig'n would be required, and the tank filling may get annoying...

                The Sheer Volume of air needed for this idea to work is insane. The size tank you would need to hold that much air (Pressure, or Volume-wise) would weigh so much, that it would negate the effect of the extra power. Plus you'd have to find room for a tank that size.

                  uh oh, we're heading back to that big air compressor discussion. I believe that we came up with a big NO to the air tank idea.

                    The fact the can gets cold has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the can contains CO2. ALL gases decrease in temperture when they expand. ALL gases increase in temperature when they are compressed. So you cannot tell the can contained CO2 just because the can gets cold.

                    If you are a SCUBA diver you know that you can freeze the valve on your tank if you just open it up and let the air escape quickly. Those contain 21% Oxygen and 79% Nitrogen not CO2 (well maybe minute amounts).

                    You can probably find plenty of resources on the Web that explains why this is the case. Since I am already off topic I won't go into it.
