I smell burning oil at times when my engine gets hot like 210 or around there. I was under my car today, and noticed oil on my manifold near the starter, and all in that area. My oil pressure is also around 60psi or a little less while driving, and at the 1/4 mark while ideling. Is this ok? Where could the leak be comming from. I've heard about having bad oil sending units in the past, but where are they, what does it look like, and could that be it? Like i said, the oil is mostly around the starter/manifold area near that side of the pan. Thanks.

I have that exact same problem I think it is a blown head gasket but I am not sure, it is going into the shop on Thursday so I might be some more help after then.

yeah same problem. My car is in the shop for three days for this problem, cost me about $600 because the guy knows my friend and he is charging me less labor. In a regular shop the estimate for this was about $800 and in the dealership they said $1000. I hope you find someone to do this for you cheap.
This problem causes sometimes low oil pressure, temp raises, harsh idle, and I think slow acceleration, but not sure about that one.
I just don't advise to floor your car with this problem.2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6
M6, Magnaflow\'s 14336
C6 Pics

Old car:
1996 Firebird A4
SLP Cold Air Intake
Magnaflow Catback Exhaust
Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

George Mason University
CEIE Major
Pi Kappa Alpha

Firebird Pics

a common problem in the 3.8L is the real main seal leaking and this can cause the oil pan gasket to leak also. mind has had the rear main replaced twice under warrenty b4 i got the car and its all fine now. I know of a few others that have had the same problem.

not a rear main seal.. its either the lower intake manifold leaking or the rear of the valve cover gasket leaking.... i had mine fixed 2 months ago and my oil pan gasket was leaking too.... 97 RS97\' RS camaro
406ci sbc
69\' SS camaro
383ci sbc

I had the guy at jiffy lube put a bottle of Lucas that i bought in with the oil when he changed it. From what I understand, Lucas is supposed to be some good stuff. I'm really not worried about the leak that much right now cause it isn't that bad, more so the oil pressure. I plan on putting in an 8 next year, but still need this motor to last for awhile. It just hit 61,000 miles. So is my pressure normal? Like 40-55 while driving, and like 30-35 ideling.1997 Camaro RS Convertible
White w/black top, factory chrome rims
Mods so far: Borla catback, Catco high flow cat,CAI,2 point STB,painted calipers and drums with caliper camaro decals,GTS blackout all the around,5% tinted windows all the way around,Streetglow red neon lights inside and under, raised camaro fill in decals on the rear, 30th anv decals, and a nice stereo system
http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=275528
