I had this annoying raddle in my trunk from my subs so i was about to put dampening sheets in when i found this.

The first pic was just some plastic thing just resting in there. That had to be the rattle. It just lifted right out.
then i found this little rectangle piece with rubber flaps on it. and behind it was ?? the inside of bumper??
    What is this thing??

I'm gonna take a guess here, and say it's for ventilation.

On older cars, there was a black plastic vent in the door posts, so incoming air had a place to go when the windows were up. (GM likes to have some incoming air flow all the time through the hvac, and even more outside air when running the a/c - unless it's on max which equals recirculate on other cars).

I don't remember seeing any outgoing vents on the Camaro anywhere... So this must be where they tucked it away.

The rubber flaps are probably supposed to let air go out, but not come in.

That second unknown is the top of a rear shock. I think ... don't touch it.

Now, go pull your passenger side inner-rocker-panel trim, that holds the carpet in place. It's only like 3 or 4 screws ... do it. Now tell me what in the world that plastic crate-looking-thing by the passenger's right foot is? I had a post about it earlier but got no response ... I'm thinkin' I'll yank it ...

            Bingo

Having changed my rear shocks a few times, I can say that's quite a b*tch to get to unless you rip out everything like you did.
