  • SERIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM ***UPDATE***

Ok ladies, now im getting extremely desperate here. This is how it started. . . I was driving on the interstate going to Six Flags when my car started stutttttering, i thought that it was a misfire or something. I pulled over and restarted the car and my ANS INOP came on and my winshield wipers moved verrry slowly and even stoped in the middle of the cycle, i thought the motor went but sometime when the headlights are off they work fine. And also my left turn signal doesn't work when the headlights are on and the bulb is fine because i replaced it. And im throwin a P0650 code which is the MIL thingy and I finally found out where the fuse is at so ill check that out. SO i took it to a ford dealership yes a forD dealership bc they are my dad's client. And they said they have no clue. And they said its gonna cost 500+ to fix i was like [wavey.gif] goodbye. SO should i take it to a chevy dealership or can you guys give me a hand???? BTW im posting it in Stereo/Elec so dont move it i need help from everybody.
    Thankz

Check all connections clean them and reconnect them(alternator, battery terminals, etc.) Then check out your alternator maybe?

also any links on the "MIL thingy"?

all checked and fine. The P0650 Malfunction Indicator Light Malfuntion code has never been covered before on this board, if it is please find it i cant. Someboy said it has to do with the MIL fuse and i found out it is behind the instrument cluster so I'm checking that tomorrow.

        Is your alternator dieing?

My speedo and tach would jump around like crazy and the headlights would flicker if I had too much electrical stuff turned on when the alternator went.

P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Malfunction

the above could be caused by bad wiring (some wire has managed to find a new path to ground). but...

sounds like a bad battery or a dying alternator. it can be hard to tell which is bad (since a bad battery can create a load on the alternator and a bad alterantor doesnt charge the battery and makes the battery look bad).

pull the alternator take it to you local part store. they should be able to test it (some can test it while its in the car). how old is your battery? anything over 3-4 years is usually on borrowed time.

Don't freak out-- rule out the easy, cheap, and dumb things first.

-Bring your car/battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested. This service is usually free.

-While you're there, have the alternator tested too. I think some stores test those for free. Why? cause they are trying to sell you parts.

-After you've done that and made sure that the electrical connections [all of them] are tight and clean, then you need to worry about short circuits, electronic component failure, etc.

Don't chase this down the wrong way. Start with the simple stuff.

DTC P0650 set indicates an improper voltage level on the output circuit that controls the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
Is the check engine light not coming on at all anymore?

Inspect the MIL fuse and replace as necessary. Was the fuse open? If the MIL fuse is open, locate and repair a short to ground in the MIL ignition supply circuit or a shorted cluster.

I would not be extreamy worried about that code. it could be a fuse or something as simple at the bulb burned out. I would first be checking your PCM connectors and grounds for the engine and PCM along with your batery connections

I actually just repaced my battery about 3 days ago beause it was the wrong size. The MIL fuse, i think i found it, i bought a jaynes manual and i dont kno the electrical symbols in the diagrams too well but i asked mu brother and he says theres a yr withsymbol for a fuse for the MIL thing in the intrument cluster, and for my alt i replaced it in the beginning of the a HO alt and i hope that isnt going. but i do still have the orig alt and i think thats still in good shape

Alternators usually go more quickly in my experience. Been present or been driving in 4 instances when the alternator catastrophically failed... however if the selanoid (sp?) or brushes are going bad - it IS a possibility for intermittent problems.

"usualy" power comes from the gauges fuse and then the drier in the PCM suplys ground to set the light. most times tho it's just a burnt out bulb.

Im almost positive that the SES light still comes on when i turn the car on but i will check that. Im also going to goto a local auto store to have the alt checked.
