  • Anyone have issues with Plug wires?

I am on my third set of wires and these ones (atleast one) are bad. I've got 114K miles and since I got the car 3 years ago with 50K miles this will be the 4th time replacing the plug wires. Anyone else have the same problem? It seems like every few months my car starts stuttering real bad and so far it's been the wires everytime.

What's a good brand I can get this time around?

I'm not sure if it's running rich really. It doesn't smell like it's running rich. I checked the wires out some and I noticed some arcing. I couldn't tell where it was coming from really though, it was between the coil packs and the back of the motor area. I adjusted the wires as best as I could in the dark and it actually helped a little. I don't know what's up with that. Maybe a wire is touching something causing that???

Sonds like you are cooking your wires... its pretty common on our cars look into heatsleeves, its helped some.

Thanks. I'm going to fix this tomorrow. What type of wires should I go with?

I've been told, 8.5mm MSD wires form www.ftpp.net then summit sells 6 foot 1000* wire sheathing. Cut it into 6, 1 foot pieces(one foot per cylinder).

            I read about it here.

Thanks, I'm going to try to find those wires and the wire protectors today. Hopefully one of the auto parts stores or shops has them.

Is there a trick to getting the protective sleeving over the wires? Most of them don't look like they would fit over the boots on the plug wires.

I had to replace my wires because the first time around the mechanic didn't position the wires away from the exhaust manifold and the wires baked causing an O2 sensor to go bad. Just make sure you have the wires as far away from the exhaust(I ended up using zip ties all over)!

I'm fixing to order the wires and sleeves online. No parts stores around here had them that I went to. How are you supposed to get the sleeves over the boots though when putting them on?

Yeah, I got the 8.5 MSD wires and some MSD wire and boot guards for $100. Hopefully this will do the trick.

i think that friend he's talking about is me. lol..but it wasnt on my srt4, it was on my dad's twin turbo viper. Plugs kept getting fowled out a while back from running way to rich. All taken care of now via AEM EMS. But, he also used to go through plug wires due to them being wrecked from the heat...sh*tty magnecore wires...lol
