• Engine replaced!!

Hey guys, I don't know if you all remember.. but I was complaining that my car was overheating, despite my attempts to fix it.. thermo, flushing, checking fans.. etc. Well took it to the dealership, turns out I had a bad bearing? Someone please explain that to me and how it would cause overheating. Anyway, the ford dealership put a refurbished engine in my car. Which I think is pretty cool. My question is, what should i look for to make sure this engine is on the up and up? Do dealerships get these kinds of things from reputable places? What kind of security should I have that this won't happen again any time soon? BTW, my engine pooped at 86000 miles. Also, the funny thing is they cancelled my warranty for this. It had turned out while owning my car, the warranty company went out of business.. leaving the car dealership screwed.. (among many others I assume).

So they did work on the car for customer service, they didn't have to honor the warranty. I guess there are huge class action lawsuits against these warranty companies issuing warranties they had planned not making good on. The cool thing is I bought this warranty when I got my car april of 2003. It cost 1300 dollars. Well, after a 500 dollar oil pan job they did.. and a 1800 dollar engine replacement with only a couple hundred dollar deductibles... i think i got my money's worth.

BTW viper.. are we still good for the header install this january? I'll be taking the camaro about 1000 miles early february and I was curious if it'd still be ok? Also, with this engine in.. will it make the header install easier cuz of the lack of wear on the con necting parts

I had my engine replaced by a "reputable" engine remanufacturer last year... since then they have had to rebuild it 3 times. I am not sure if it the company or what but they have honored their warrenty... to a point... now this company supplies engines to Pep Boys, AutoZone etc... so I am not sure what the deal is with mine.

First, yes it smells funny when you first get it back... it could be the lube they use or something on the outside of the engine... mine usually smells like a combination of vasiline and something I can't place.

Change your oil at 500 and then again at 1K miles... there are two schools of thought on a rebuilt/new engine (treat them the same). One is drive it gently for the first 1K miles the other is thrash it.... I tend to be easy on my cars so I drive normally.

LOL, thrash it so all the weak links break first and can be replaced under warranty, right?

The cam installation lube as well as other "Prelubes" have that smell.

Does it drive any different? I'm just curious... is it any more responsive? I was thinking of installing a refurbished engine... that or just moving on to a 350...

Hey at least im not the only one with a refurbished engine :D . Spun a bearing in the old one. Just got mine in last wed. If you think 80k is soon i ruined mine in just 60k. Also mine smells funny too heh. Guy at the shop told me to wait 500 then give it an oil change, but after that i should be able to drive normal. One thing i did notice is a vibrating sound coming from underneath the car. Seems to be coming from underneath where the center console is but also comes from the rear by where the driveshaft would be too. Taking it in tomorrow morning to get that checked out but anyone have an idea of what it could be? Something not connected properly maybe?

By the way my refurb runs very well so far. Much better response than the old one and seems to have slightly more power. No real "wow" factor but a nice little extra grunt i guess. Also my exhaust seems to have a deeper note now also.
