• does this sound right???

my 97 3.8 has been having some problems. I brought it to a mechanic and he said he is gettign three codes. 1st the coil packs 2nd the throttle position sensor and something with the exhaust pressure. He said its goign to cost around 200$ to fix. I put on a flow master 80 series with last august he said my muffler is gone. I cant belive that my car is only driven in the summer the muffler has liek 3000 miels on it. could it be the cat??

You're muffler is gone? That makes no sense. Can you first start off with what type of problems you are having with you're car? In what way is it acting up?

when i first start the car in teh morning its nto as bad. As i drive it gets worse. If i press lightly on the gas it is drivable. when i push down a little the engine sounds deeper and louder and doesnt go anywhere. The car jerks back and forth and has no power barely can get up hills. Once it gets going its fine though. my ses light has been on for 2 days. It sometimes blinks for a few seconds. The mechanic said i erally only need to change the coil packs and the throttle sensor is that worth 200$?

how about posting the codes and what kind of issues you are having. Most of it like the TPS and coil issue you can handle yourself and then see how it goes

you have a sevear missfire that you need to deal with. It might be the coil it might not. If you do not wanna go through the proces of finding out then you can just hand it off to a shop. if they can take care of the codes and miss for 200 bucks I would say thats about right

It sounds like you car is misfiring and surging when you attempt to drive it. Do you have any back fire? A ignition coil and the throttle position sensor aren't worth $200 (a mere $50-$75) You can do it yourself in about 30 minutes or less. First you would have to find out which one of the ignition coils it is. Easy fix. Hope this helps.

a flashing ses means a missfire sevear enough to cause damadge to the catylyst. Thats not good. You could do motor damadge or runing the cat if you have not already
