• TSP tuning and gears...

I have a 96 a4 3.8. I am going to upgrade my 3.08 to 3.42 and lsd. I know i will have to get a 97 pcm for my car. My question is will i have to get the vin number out of a different car for it to work or something? Just wanting to get everything together before i do all this.

Yes you will need the vin for a 97 automatic.

UNLESS you find a 97 A4 PCM that is already a Y87 PCM then it will be direct swap and you won't need programming at all.

Why would i need to flash a 97 a4 pcm with a 97 a4 vin? Wouldnt it already have a vin for it. If i flash it would i have to find a vin for one with 3.42's already?

They'll just need to know what gears that VIN# came with stock. You could easily get a VIN from someone on this board, as long as they know what their original gear ratio was

Ok i sm going to call this junkyard tomorrow that is nothing but f-bodies. Just to make sure i have this right... i need to ask for a 93-97 z28 rear end with 3.42 gears and a 97 pcm? Does the pcm have to be for an auto? also are those the year rear ends that will work with my 96? thanks.

It'll make it possible to just tune and bolt-in the PCM if it had the same tranny that you do. If it doesn't, then TSP can have it re-flashed with some VIN# and then tune it

Now I just need a 97A4 PCM and a 3.42 LSD rearend. The shift points would be right wouldn't they? That is my main concern.

The shift points will be the same as long as the PCM is a Y87 PCM that had 3.42s originally.

I had to reflash my PCM to a Y87 vin number when I got a new rear end in mine.
