I'm trying to disconnect the wires from a starter in another car, but they are horizontal and are placed in a very tight spot. . .too tight for a conventional ratchet (I can barely get my hand in the space, and I have a small hand). Anyone ran into this problem? Tool recommendations? I have no idea what size the nut itself is, otherwise I'd just use a conventional wrench.

take the bolts off that are holding the starter to the engine, and slightly move the starter to an angle to make the bolt(s) more accesible.
**Make sure you disconnect the pos + side terminal of the battery first!!sigpic

Thanks. This thing's really wedged between a set of headers (it's a lateral mount, 4-cyl) and the throttle body is sitting almost directly over the starter. I almost took the starter off and did exactly what you said, but I didn't want the car to crank on me while I was under it.1992 Arctic White Firebird
3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.

http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html

\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"

Ummm.. just a thought.. If you disconnect the negative battery cable there is no chance of it cranking while your under it. You should have it disconnected anyway if you are working on a starter. Have you ever seen the sparks that happen if you accidently touch a wrench to the wrong place??RD in AZ
2001 V6 Camaro, A4, Mystic Teal
www.azfba.com

Mods so far:

Brand new wiper blades...
