  • Car is dead

Well yesterday afternoon I was driving around like normally, car was running great. I was going to get a nice Ice Coffee from DD. I hit a massive pothole and it shook my car pretty well. Car was still running fine but I heard a new vibration coming from the right rear of the car.
I got home, took a quick look under the car to see if anything was loose but I didn't see anything. I ran inside to get ready for work, come back out, turned the key...Nothing.
Radio, windows, lights, etc all work. If I turn the key, all normal dash lights are on, fuel pump kicks in, if I turn the key to start I get a single click and that is it.
I have checked the fuses, connections to the battery, etc... Battery is still reading on the low side but the engine doesn't even try to crank.
Any suggestions? I plan on running the alt and battery over to Advanced but I don't have time today before work. Thanks.

Nathan with all the problems your car has had, I think it's time to send it to the grave. Put it out of it's misery.

starter relay... ground to starter, etc. for it to instantly die you must have lost a ground.

Yeah, the coolant was leaking from a cracked elbow that runs from the belt tensioner to the block just below the TB. How I found it was to remove the drive belt, take out the bolts for the tensioner/alt, slid those forward and started the car. You can then see the elbow and front seal for the intake manifold.

Well here is what has happened with my car. I took the battery to Advanced to get it tested and it came up bad (low amps). So I went home with my new optima red top, threw it in, turned the key... and nothing... Car still wouldn't start.
I had to get the car into the driveway so I could jack it up and get at the starter. So after I pushed it into the driveway my wife decided to turn the key for the fun of it and the car jumped to life with no problems... Uh WTF? What would cause this?

get it checked out... you might need a new starter. when my starter went out, it did that... it wouldn't turn over or anything. once in a while with a magic turn of the key, it would start. just keep trying until it will start and once it does, get it to a shop. have them check the starter for you. it's a quick job.

was the security light on after the first attempt to start it?

Security light was on but only during initial turning of the key. It would go off if the key was left in the "on" position. I have driven the car several times today. I have not had a problem starting since then. Maybe the connection to the battery was loose or something like that. We will see.
