  • Interior Panel question -- weight reduction

Open the passenger door, remove the panel that runs the length of the bottom of the cabin, covering the carpet seam, and then runs up the A-pillar (not the pillar, but the bottom frame). On my 97, behind this panel (necessarily removed to access the wiring grommet) there's this box looking structure that just sorta sits there and doesn't hold anything. Black plastic, foam backed, juts out like it's ready to hold an alarm, speaker, amp, sensor, power window thing or whatever, but it's empty. Sorry, no pics, but it's behind the bulk of the removed trim panel, by the passenger's right foot. Anyway I can just cut all of this box / foam out? I haven't done much investigation into it, but it seems extra.
