  • Common Problems

    I just joined your message board and am very happy I found it. My 94 Camaro 3.4 with 70K has been nothing but a lemon since about 10K. It has been broken so many times its amazing. Here are a list of the thing I can remember being replaced;

Drivers Side Window Motor (2 times)
    Fuel Pump
Fuel Sending Unit (2nd time in the tank)
Ignition Thing the key goes into
    Rear Tranny Mount
    Fuel Injector
    Alternator
Sun Visor Fell Off The Roof
    Rear Window (Long Story)
Like 3 Sceerptine Belts and 1 Idler pully

I see that the Window Motor and Ignition thing is a common thing. Anything very common I should be looking for or have I already experienced everthing. I love the car though!!!

That makes it a lemon? Good Lord, Man, that's not that much for an 8 year old car.

        I have a 94 Converitible and I have:
-Replaced both window motors 2xs and I am getting ready to rewire the passenger side switches
-back window fell in, replaced roof
-Alternator went on the coldest day in FL history when I was wearing shorts at night and had to walk 2 miles for a replacement
        -fabric on seat wore thru
-I broke the oil pressure sensore when changing the oil
-serpentine belt auto tensioner broke when changing the belt
-the damn original tire wore out after 95K (cheap POS)

-I now need new shocks (with 115K on the originals)

Basically this car has been berry berry good to me. But, it has been well loved, regular maintenence and every jaunt to the next red light is not a race.

I've not experienced any of the items mentioned. But I do have a "pet peeve" that has broken three times: The ash tray lid. Definitely a very weak part. Anyone have any suggestions on ways to maybe "stock up" on spare lids before the basic warranty expires?

As far as the perspective of problems with an 8 year old car, I agree that does not seem like a very big list. I view it the other way: Back in the late 70s and early 80s, many cars (Japanese and American) were not even coming clsoe to lasting 8 years, much less 10 or more.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

That's not that bad. I had a '94 before I had my ''01, & it had its fair share of problems (I bought the car w/73k on it):

Blown head gasket (resulting in new motor)
              Replaced exhaust manifold gasket(s)
              3 alternators replaced
Replaced tranny crossmember bolt (very odd)
Camshaft O-ring oil pump seal replaced (along w/valve cover gaskets, etc.)

People, belts, plugs and hoses don't count. That is regular maintainance. Read your owners manual. Now window motor and rear window on the other hand, that sux. My car has only lost the rear main seal that the power cut out switch in the door a **** load of times. The head lights are a stickler on the birds too. Mine is a winker, too lazy to fix. other than that, lots of TLC and it has been a very good car to me.

I took it to the shop a lot. The thing I changed 3 times was the alternator. The fbody alternators are terrible.

                        Hey Gregg, welcome abord first!
Sounds like you bought your car right around the time things on normal F-Bods start to go bad. I had my share of things breaking, but you found a good site here and everyone that I had respond to my SOS's, helped me get through it without spending an arm and a leg. Well, keep your job so you have a decent income, because these "almost" extinct cars give us MANY of headaches and cost us! But mostly everyone here ownes one, so they must be good.

                          GM alternators are horrible

I have done alternators, on its 4rd belt, and the igniotn locks cylinder went out on my car.

All the *****ing abotu fuel pump makes me want ot check my fuel pressure.

Tranny mounts, axle, and tranny breaking I atone to my driving habits.
