Ok about a few months after i got my 94 camaro 3.4L I got this ticking noise coming from my engine I took it to my mechanic and he said it sounded like it was the timing chain so i replaced it. It is better now it still ticks till it gets warmed up then i only hear it when i'm going at a steady speed like at 30 or 40. I don't know what the heck it is and no one can figure it out it still has all of its power i think can some one please help im really frustrated.

Could be a time bomb?
You need to be as discriptive as possible when saying I have a noise from my engine.
Sound, loudness, exactly where and so on.Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6
nitrous et & mph: 12.168 & 110.95 mph, n/a 13.746 & 96.38 mph
2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8: 12.125, 116.45
2010 Ford Taurus SHO: no times yet

If it is louder cold and then gets less noticable, you probably have some play in your valvtrain somewhere. Probably a lifter or the rockers/valves. My advice, drive in nice while it is cold and don't really worry about it. It will take a lot of labor ($$$) to get inside the engine, and by that time you might as well put a new engine in. Normally though, it is just lifter noise. Go listen to a Honda motor some time and that is all that you will hear.1995 Firebird 3.8 A4, 140,000 miles and going strong
Basically Stock, college=poor
Junior Mechanical Engineering Student: Milwaukee School of Engineering; Cpl, MN Army National Guard...just got promoted :)

*nod* my engine makes a loud clacking sound and that's from loose rockers thanks to Coast Motor Supply  , I'm makin em put my roller rockers back in though :D , but yeah, that's why I asked how loud it was...I was thinkin it's valvetrain too

OK I'll try my best but let me explain something first Before I got my timing chain and tensioner replaced the ticking noise was all the time and noticable all the time. After i got it done it is now only when i start it up until it is warm then i here it when im like going 30 or 40 MPH and cruising at a higher rpm like just before i would shift so the r's drop for say when im going 40 ok then it's a really fast tick tick tick i would say RPM related. For the noise its alot less noticable now then it was Im really frustrated i have a nice sounding car and looking its just got this little tick.
