  • Windshield Wiper BS (Gotta Read this )

So I got my car inspection done about 2 weeks ago at a local firestone body shop. Well they said the only thing wrong was my windshield wiper blades were torn about an inch from the edge and it wouldnt pass unless I got new ones. So I told them they could replace them and I was off on my way.
Well today was the first day of rain we had and so I finally used the wipers. In the center and the left side no water gets wiped down by the wipers. So I go back in to Firestone today and tell the manager the wipers arent working I need them replaced. He comes out and puts a new set on and those dont work either. While inside I picked up a catalog by the wipers and looked up my 1996 firebird. What did it say ? it needed a special blade directly from pontiac....
So the guy says to get some new ones and come back and he will refund my money. I think this is bs and he should be the one who should replace my wipers free of charge especially since I could have just replaced the edge on the blade and been fine but now I have to go out and get one then get a refund on firestines bs style workers....what do yall think and where can I get some wipers. Thanks

all you have to do is bend the passanger side wiper so that it forms the shape of the windshield. Thats what i had to do with my rain-x blades...

alot of camaro/firebird wipers do that, including mine. I have tried anco and bosch wipers, and it still wont get a large area on the bottom left of the windshield. I never thought about bending the wiper, but i dont have to worry because of rain-x

you have to buy the blade that is for the camaro/firebird because the window is obvously more curved than other cars. you can find them at autozone and walmart. just make sure it says camaro/firebird on the box cause you can go to walmart and get one that is suppose to fit but it doesnt it.

The same **** happened to me. Here's my story:

About 2 months ago I go to the local Mr.Lube to get an oil change. The technician tells me that my wipers are worn down and asks if I would like to get new ones. Since I've had my 94 Firebird for about a year, and the wipers are worn down, I think what the hell why not change them. Well, 3 technicians are now struggling with every wiper blade this place sells, they just can't get them to work like the originals (I insisted we try them, and when I did I noticed they don't catch water on a significant area of the windshield).

Noticing the struggling technicians trying to get the wipers to work, I just tell them to forget it and put on the originals and I'll just go to Canadian Tire or some other place to get wipers. The incompetent technicians are now unable to put back on my ORIGINAL wipers. The morons lose some critical insert piece. Anyways, I have had enough so I just tell them not to worry. I drive off with my wipers in hand rather than on the wiper arms where they should be (because the moron Mr.Lube workers can't figure out how to put them back on).

I drive to Canadian Tire, and I try 3 different makes of blades. Nope, nothing will work like OWM on this windshield. So I return them all.

I have been driving around for a few weeks without any wipers because of this ridiculous incident. I have been procrastinating on buying new replacements from GM because of the ridiculously expensive price. I still have the original wipers/blades, but I don't have the damn insert or whatever hardware its called to allow you to connect the wiper/blade to the actual arm.

Does anyone sell a cheap aftermarket relacement WIPER for this car that WORKS?!?!

            Thanks.

Thanks very much. I was doing some research in the last 45 minutes, reading various threads on this board about "wiper blades". The Anco name came up a few times. I am going to go out tomorrow to get some, apparently Walmart stocks them. I believe the part# is 22-24.

I could have just gone to the dealer 2 months ago and bought wiper blades, but it bothers be that it would cost me $30 Canadian per wiper -- and that is a discount price I can get from a friend working at the dealership. So, about US $50 for 2 OEM firebird/camaro wipers. That's nuts.

I beleive they are 22" wipers. I got some and they did the same thing, only really wiped in the middle, so I just ended up doing what Tyler did, and just had to bend them.

All you have to do is cut off a little notch off the wiper so it will sit correctly. I was having the same problem and it took me a good 2 minutes to figure that out.

If you go and look the wiper hits the wiper arm just get some snips and cut off about 1/4'' off the wiper. Once its done you wont even notice and it will wipe all the water off.
