uhm, when i idle, the engine on my car sounds like its lightly squeaking, ie like it sounds like a pully bearing isn't lubed. sounds like a hamster wheel. Idk wtf it is, but its bothering me. Do you guys have any suggestions? kk ty :D

I'd guess either the belt or something driven by it. Pull off the belt and spin the different parts by hand and see if they make a noise.

Mines doing the same exact thing, it's coming from the alternator pulley. Yes, it sounds like a hamster wheel. WD-40 didn't work neither did engine oil, guess im gonna have to take it off cuz I don't know what else to do.

remove the belt and turn the alternator, idler and tensioner pullies by hand. if they click or grind they need replaced.

usually the tensioner or idler pullies go. they are relatively small therefore they see a lot of rpms.

Could be alternator just like Pontiac nino said. I noticed it on mine when I swapped the blower belt. What REALLY got me was a similar loud whistle after I welded my exhaust up. Turns out it was exhaust blowing by the freeze plug that I put in my EGR port on the headers. Just didn't make the sound until I had backpressure from the exhaust (ran open headers for a few days). I tried EVERYTHING trying to find that squeak/whistle.

Anyone ever tried spritzing brake cleaner on/around the pullies to solve this? My g/f's taurus had a squeak like this, and after replacing the belt and inspecting the tensioner and idler, cleaning the pullies with that seems to have solved it.

Alright, I took off the belt... its the alternator pully. >.<, I tried wd40, no avail. I also tried getting that big a** nut off the front of the alternator so i could take all that crap out and clean it, but its on there harder than a weld. Uhm, so can i replace the alternator pully by itself? or do i have to get a new alt, since that damn nut refuses to come off. Or is that brake cleaner thing worth a shot?

Id say try grease but I don't think that would work either.

Have you tried any penetrating oil on that bolt? It's what the exhaust shop guys use to get those bolts on the catalytic converter off (those are a ***** too).
