  • Replacing the v6 to a v8 engine

    He everyone.
Due to some bull**** circumstances with GM and my car and their warranty laws, I've taken the car to a different mechanic who can do a good job a whole lot cheaper than the dealer. If it comes down to replacing the engine would it be worth replacing it with a v8? I'd want a new one, not necessarily from GM even. Anyone know what would need to be done, how much would it cost and what engine should I put in? This would go into a 1999 Camaro.

    Thanks

Theres a post thats fairly recent around either Gen. Tech or in the lounge talking about putting an LS1 in a earlier 4th Gen. I believe the figures where something like 300-3500 for the engine and another 2000-2500 for labor...
    or something to that effect.

If you have the cash (or someone else wants to pay for it) go for it.

      Check out http://www.tacreationsusa.com/engines.htm

On that page it'll tell you what you need for the V6 to V8 conversion. Personally, I wouldn't even think about putting any engine in your car except an LS1. Who knows what could happen if you put some other engine into a new F-body. On their price list for a used LS1 engine it lists $2750-$4300, which includes "accessories", PCM, wiring, and transmission. I myself was considering this for my car, but I decided it would be cheaper and less hassle to just sell my V6 and buy an SS.

personally, if i could, i would replace it with a 4.3 TBI. im thinking of getting a low mile 4.3 out of a wrecked vehicle, and just doing simple stuff to it. heres some plus's of the 4.3 compared to ls1 or lt1. less expensive. smaller size. lighter. larger stroke. sound beefy for v6. tbi is easy to work on. u can get snazzy airfilters for it and actual functional cowl induction. lots of aftermarket. and they are numerous cause people wrecking their S10s and people wanting to change out to a 350 in their S10s. a 4.3 motor, is, basicly a 350 with the 2 front cylinders chopped off. and a 4.3 vortec is a powerful little motor. and with some aftermarket stuff. you could make that sucker fly!

My car is completely stock too, that'd make for a real good "SLOW" race :D Don't know too many other V6 people, but I hang out at Jaxracing.com and there's a lot of F body guys on there. I talk to most of the River City Sport Truck guys though, I'm fixing to get me a truck.
