I currently have 3.23's and I just need something steeper than that. Should I just go with the ever popular 3.73's or bump it up a little? I have been told that the 3.8's love the 4.11's....any suggestions?

With 3.73s or 4.10s you will have to get custom programming for your speedometer to work right.
There are cheap programmers (not to mention Y87 PCMs) that can correct your speedometer for 3.42s, and you get better gas mileage.
I am an advocate of using 3.42s MAX on the 3.8 F-body, anything higher is too steep of a gear.-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.

unless your your pulling some forced induction or juice, 3.42s are good enough

i really would like to see this debate settled.. I want someone in the same car to run 3.73s in the quarter mile.. and then trade them out for 3.42s.. and do the same thing!~The Guru\'s Guru~
1999 Camaro,K&N,!MAF
!airsilencer,3.08s,
NGK-TR6\'s,Taylor Blue 8mm wires,FRAM,A4,Catco Cat, Magnaflow 3 inch catback,transgo shift kit
Waiting: RK sport headers, custom y pipe electric cutout
www.cardomain.com/id/divinejc

I think 3.42 for manual, 3.73 for auto is the way to go.Sinister Six©
My \'95 Bird
I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

i know everyone has their preferences.. i want some real proof... someone get in their 3.8 or 3.4 (i prefer to see the 3.8) and run 5 times down the track... switch gears (if possible) then do it again the same day.. that's the challenge i pose.. and it will settle this debate once and for all!~The Guru\'s Guru~
1999 Camaro,K&N,!MAF
!airsilencer,3.08s,
NGK-TR6\'s,Taylor Blue 8mm wires,FRAM,A4,Catco Cat, Magnaflow 3 inch catback,transgo shift kit
Waiting: RK sport headers, custom y pipe electric cutout
www.cardomain.com/id/divinejc

If you want to figure out the optimum gear ratio for drag racing, you want to pick the gears that will let you use all of your powerband in the gear that you cross the finish in. For example, if you cross the line in 3rd gear, you want to be just about at the redline as you cross the line.
Here are some formulas to help determine the best gear for your specific car, since everyone's car is different:
