  • Damage from jack stands

I had the car up to change the wires this weekend. I put my front jack stands under the box-beam sections behind the front A-arms that look like subframe rails/sections. Well, the passenger side one is fine, but over time I have noticed the driver's side one getting wavy from using it as a lift point. Even worse, the jack stand slipped yesterday and put a nice big crater in that area. Now it seems when I stop I hear a creaking from right under me where that section is. My question is, did I do any major damage? Should I not worry about it? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I have lifted my car many times and my frame looks like crap. Its all dinged up and bent. Sometimes it just the price you pay for doing driveway work.

That's kinda what mine looks like. It's gotten wavy over time with that new ding. As long as it doesn't collapse or anything I won't worry about it. Sounds like part of the do-it-yourself deal.

I have lifted my car at least 25 times and my frame is still straight and has no signs of dents or bending...maybe you are just placing the jack stands in bad positions.

Bad meaning the wrong spot? Or not leveling them out with the frame? I am pretty sure the front subframe areas behind the front wheels are recommended spots to use. I am thinking about using a piece of wood between stand and car to spread the load to keep it from getting worse.
