  • Anyone tried to Boost their A/C?

Its summer and Im in Texas. Its HOT.

Has anyone modded their A/C units to blow cooler or harder?

Is their some better refridgerant that we can use in our cars?

Or will I be the first to atempt to supercharge my A/C?

    :D

yeah I heard about that. Was that just insulation on the condenser?

your a/c should be blowing at 38-43 deg at the vents. If it gets any colder than that, the evaporator will frost over and won't work at all until it thaws out.

I WOULDN'T DO THAT AC MOD OF DOMINIQUE 'S IF I were you it will make it a pain in the butt to ever do any work on the ac if you do it....but you might want to try to wrap in some kind of insulation and tape it on there it might not stick very well but at least you can get back at the ac easier, if you ever need to.
the curb that you don\'t see is always the most damaging

I dont see how what you are saying is different. Either way all I would be doing is wrapping the condenser.

Also, my AC is NOT blowing 38-43 degrees...well maybe 38-43* Celsius, but not Farenheight. :D

                  Hi there,

I have been doing heating and cooling for 18 years. There's no way to really supercharge a A/C system. need4speed is right about the temps. Some will blow alittle colder, but not much. The hotter it gets outside the warmer the air is inside. Blame that on the HUGE windows. Biggest heat loss and gain! If your air is to hot, try checking the freon pressures. Sounds like your alittle low on freon. That will make a big diff. Wrapping anything is not going to help awhole lot. You do to much stuff and no one will touch it. Never, I repeat never change to another freon. Unless you like trashing your comressor and destroying your A/C system. The differant freons work on differant operating pressures. (theres differant drop in's but i wont go there) And your system is designed for a certain pressure and freon. Example.. You put R-22 in it and watch it come apart at the seams!

Try checking the pressures. Sounds like your low. Try tinting your windows. That will help ALOT!!

                  Hope this helps
                  Kevin

I did some research when I went to do the A/C system for my 'Olds 98, an R134 Retro-fit car.

I found some guy that had experimented with propane and all other sorts of gasses. He said that he had some of them blowing as cold as 20 degrees, and one he said had frost on the seats. But none of them were practical, reliable, and most of all, he explicitly stated how dangerous they were.

You might be able to give the folks over at Vintage Air (here in town - rock on!) a call. They might be able to do you a custom system, but you'd be looking at close to 1000 dollars or more.
