I just got my 97 firebird and it makes a weird clanking sound when it's starting. The mechanic i took it to said that it is normal and that they all do it. Does anyone elses do this??

Mine does that and the only thing we have been about to point at is the fuel pump. Thats our best guess. Does it sound like something is turning off and on three times kinda fast?

Mine did that too. As it turns out, these cars sound very bad when the battery is low... Replacing the battery for me worked well...

Don't worry about it, it's normal. When I first got my car it started doing that after my first oil change. When I went to the dealer for a water leakage problem, I see that the Impala does it too. I also see the Tahoe as well as other Chevy cars do that same thing. If you hear it often enough, yours as well as other peoples', you get use to it.
