My friend has some methonol. He says he mixes it in his fuel for a high octane level. Would this be a smart move for me? Are there any dangers to this? What should I be aware of?

DO NOT USE METHANOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Methanol is very corrosive and is not recommended for use in our cars. You will rarely see any improvement in incresing the octane rating in our car. No more than 5 hp. Hot rod did an extensive test on it a couple months ago. If you are running boost, then I can see the need for extra octane to keep the timing where it should be. If you want to boost the octane, find some E85 and mix it in there. I think the octane rating on that is something like 110-115. It is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline and sold at numerous pumps through out the nation, but mainly in my home state of MN.1995 Firebird 3.8 A4, 140,000 miles and going strong
Basically Stock, college=poor
Junior Mechanical Engineering Student: Milwaukee School of Engineering; Cpl, MN Army National Guard...just got promoted :)
