I'm not a hardcore strip racer but I was thinking about installing a 160 degree thermostat in my Camaro because of the summertimes where I live (easily gets up to 110 degrees in the summer)
Do these modules accually help, from those of you that have them - especially in extreme temp's?
I have the 160 degree T-stat and I like it a lot. I've noticed a definite difference in running performance especially in hot weather. No matter what though, your car will still heat up if you sit in traffic since the fan with not turn on until the stock temp. The t-stat allows the coolant to flow/open up more at 160 degrees which does help a lot. A lot of people either add a manual fan switch as well or in my case an electric water pump that can be activated manually or at a preset temp such as 160,170,180 degrees. The choice is yours. All depends on the funds you have available. The e. water pump will run you around 250 total for all the fittings, the pump and flex hoses. you don't *need* a manual fan switch, but it will help keep your operating temp lower if you're sitting in traffic, or in the staging lanes at the track.

I dont use a switch, and so long that youre going 40+ mph your temps will be down...
As soon as you get moving, the temps drop to normal - so its really no biggie to not have a switch. I recommend a 70% water 30% antifreeze mix for hot summers too, it helps when running a 160 a good bit.
I do alot of stop and go driving everyday, with some highway miles but not alot.
I was thinking that this would be a simple mod with some positive results in the long run.
Are you saying that the stat only kicks in after you have been running at 40+ mph?
I'm sorry for the dumb questions, I just like to be informed about things I put on my vehicle.
It is well worth the 10minute install time... even ins top and go it will help since it will be flowing full strength, allow ing the radiator to do its job to the fullest... it doesnt harm anything, doesnt make the waterpump work harder or *wear out the radiator*... it simply allows for the engine to run cooler *when it can*.
I love mine, highly suggest it, even if it doesnt drop your temperatures 100% of the time... I assure you it will run cooler - especially on the interstate.
