  • Odometer error

I just aquired an 97 Firebird with the series II 3800 engine and automatic transmission. The car hadn't been driven since early 2003 till I got it and my question is, the trip odometer reads and resets fine, but the regular odometer just reads "error". What am I up against and how would I correct it? I can't get it registered until I can determine the miles on the vehicle. Thanks!

run a carfax on it, and get the mileage off the last record they have listed for inspection or something. then add 5,000 to it, and register it.

also, you may want to just get a new cluster to put in close to what you registered it as, that way you can keep track.
