I just bought a 95 Camaro with the 3.4 and need some advice. Bare with me since I am used to Volkswagens. I already changed the air filter, plugs and plug wires, but it seems like I am getting low mileage even for this car (about 16 mpg). Another thing is it seems to not like revving above 4k rpm under load.
I am planning on changing the fuel filter, but are there any other suggestions you guys can give? The car has 101k miles on it.
I think you can tap it see if it's full or not, Im not really sure since i've never had a cat on any of my previous cars.
I heard if it turns red it means it's full
with the cat, if you rev the car up real high in neutral and have a friend close to the cat under the side of the car, and they hear clunking around, the cat is busted.
here is what you need to changs(if you didnt already): plugs, wires(some nice taylor ones....barely more that stock cost), PCV valve, fuel filter. if you still get bad mileage, o2 sensors. if you still get bad mileage, EGR valve. even still, replace the cat.
Could be any of the things that Ian said, however mine only gets in the high teems doing short little trips and driving around the city... though it hits 30mpg highway. what kind of driving are you doing?

I found my PCV line that goes to the passenger-side's valve cover popped out from it's normal position and I had bad mileage for the longest time before that. Popped it back in after a plug/wire change and my mileage increased substantially. Also, how are your driving habits? The 3.4 will guzzle gas if you're constantly mashing the gas peddle. As other people suggested check/change the gas filter, air filter, PCV valve, Catalytic Converter, and possibly the EGR. Last tank of gas netted me 340 miles on 14 gallons of 60/40 city/highway miles, 85 octane (yes I know I should be using 87). Oh, and I use Mobil 1 synthetic, no idea if that impacts mileage in any measurable way.

OK, I have done air filter, plugs and wires already. I plan on doing the fuel filter and pcv valves. I have been doing a fair mix of city and highway, but I do tend to mash the gas. :D RWD, low revving, American cars are new to me since I have been driving VW's since I got my license (16 years ago).
Well, here is an update to what has been done to the car so far...
plugs
wires
air filter
PCV valve
fuel filter
oil change
plus I ran B-12 Chemtool in the gas and oil
I will see how this helps with the mileage, plus driving with a lighter foot.
Question for 3.4 owners: When you are driving hard, where do you shift? I find the need to shift right before 4000 rpms, or the car tends to fall on its face.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
