I had the same problem. The reason your window is scratched is that the broken metal is rubbing your window. The problem piece is a window guide thats attached to the top rear of the door. There are 2 in on each door and their job is to keep the window from rattling back and forth. It is a cheap part and available at your dealer. You will have to remove the interior door panel to replace it.1999 Camaro Hugger Orange 3800 A4 <p>Mods-SLP SS exhaust, K&N, SLP STB, SLP SFCS, 1LE Sway Bars(32/19), 99 C5 Wheels on 255/45ZR17\'s-17\'s on all corners...Non-Y87

I just did this a few days ago.
Roll the window down. Remove the plastic piece around your door handle and lock slider, then the door panel (just like 5 screws), pull it off, and on the top of the door there will be two metal things bolted on with one 10mm bolt each (i think its 10mm). Each should have a felt thing against the glass.
Go to the dealership and ask for a window guide/stop and then bolt it on.
