• MSD DIS-4 in-depth examination?

Has anyone other than Bill Spano in the mod encyclopedia done a test on the DIS-4 setup? I like the options the DIS-4 has, and in the future with nitrous, i would definately put it on anyway. I know practically everyone on here says "its not worth it for the 3.8's"..........ive gathered that much over the time ive been here. But basically, i want another opinion lol.

Bill witnessed a consistant .2 at the track and 3 or 4 mpg increase. With my ignition coils acting stupid currently, im thinking DIS-4 with accel coils. Whoose got some info for me....

and please, only from people who have/had it.

I would honestly go with all MSD.
I know for a fact the MSD wires are the best you can get, they have so little resistance.
My dad has all MSD on his 600hp bown 327

The DIS-4 is where you will get most of your gains, the coils/wires really helped me out with throttle response.

If you want to save the $200, you can just get the DIS-4. I ran on the stock coils and wires for about a year with no problems at all.

i already have Taylor wires for the 3.8, and my coils are going to need to be replaced. i just figured if people had SOLID proof that MSD sucked, i wouldnt do it, but if it was even semi-worth it running n/a for now, ill get it.

Well I just have solid proof for you that is sucks or that it is beneficial.

From my SOTP dyno and my friends as well, there was definately a performance increase with the DIS-4. The wires/coils didn't really give me a performance increase, mostly throttle response.

My gas mileage did increase as well, but I don't know how much was accredited to the DIS-4 since I replaced plugs/wires at the same time.

I ran it for nearly 3 years on my 3.4, the last 2 years with Accel coils and wires, than i switched to MSD coils and Taylor wires about 2 month ago.
Worked just fine, the car revved better and smoother, reached top speed faster (from what i felt), started immediately, - even in cold winters -, gas mileage became better.

The bad thing is:
It stopped working about 1 month ago, heavy misfires, running on 4 to 5 cylinders all that crap.
I sent it to MSD for a repair, lets wait and see.

My guess is that it can´t take the underhood temperatures for a longer time (it always went bad when the car got too hot, ran normal when cool), so you could perhaps avoid that problem by NOT mounting the DIS-4 in the engine departement...

Just my 2 cents.
