  • Trunk hatch rattling?

Ive been getting a worse and worse rattle in the rear passenger side corner over the last couple weeks. I think Ive narrowed it down to the trunk hatch...... If I push down on it it'll move about 1/4" in that corner and I can get a little noise out of it. Anyway, I think I remember a thread about this, and a way of adjusting or tightening it up, but cant seem to find it in a search. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I think the little black "feet" things (in the corners of the hatch) are adjustable (you can turn them like a screw). But they don't have much range. Hope it's enough to help!

Yep, they are little screw-spring things. Turn them counterclockwise to extend them until there is no more play in the hatch.

Dont rule out that your jack or spare could be lose as well. That is where they are and I get a skweaky rattle from that area of the car from them... Stick a block of wood and a pillow in there if that is what it turns out to be and you wont have anymore trouble

nope... sorry, definately not jack or spare. It'd be pretty tricky for them to rattle sitting in the garage. :D guess I didnt post that info though.

there is however a second rattle, this one is in my exhaust after the car warms up (exhaust gets hot) in the same rear passenger corner. I am wondering if the rubber bushing in the hanger gets warn out and the metal hanger from the exhaust is rattling against the metal housing once the rubber bushing gets hot and allows some play. (did any of that make sense?) anyway, can that rubber insert be replaced/ where can I find one?

ellik, i have like a sorta thump-rattle in the back pass. corner of my car also. i thought it was the trunk lid but i dont think thats it anymore, cause i fixed the rubber feet and it still does it.

if you find out what yours is, lemme know. i dont know if a broken shock would do it, but its a weird noise.

I too have this rattle. I've pretty much pegged it on a faulty exhaust hanger, as a shock would be making a heavy "pop pop" noise rather than a "thud thud" noise that I seem to be getting.

i know for a fact i have bad shocks. i know this. they blow. they are the worst pieces of crap ever. factory de carbons. wow, there is a good brand name. i get the 'pop pop' also, and i WILL be replacing the shocks sometime in the near future. at that time, i am going to check EVERYTHING i can under the damn car to find this noise.

if its the shock, ill post back. but this wont be for a little while, so keep looking!

I know I need to do shocks too, mine are the stockers and their whipped. Anyway, this isnt that. Oh, and the rubber feet did fix the one rattling noise in the trunk.

My main problem now is the rattle once the car gets hot and I come to a stop light (or stop while in drive... doesnt do it in neutral, doesnt do it cold.) I am pretty sure it is the design of the hanger on that corner that the rubber gets spongy once it heats up and allows two pieces of metal to vibrate against one another. will try to figure out a new hanger set-up or something.

Ian - I finally found the source of the rattle in the back corner. I dont know what kind of hanger your Borla uses, but my magnaflow has a 1"x3" flat stock piece of stainless welded to the pipe sticking up. There is another piec of flat stock bent into an "L" shape bolted to that, and that sticks through the rubber cushion thingy. there is a spot where that metal comes in close contact with the metal "saddle" holding that rubber cushion. its fine for a while, but it will eventually start vibrating and rattles off the saddle (or thumps if you hit a bump).
Anyone know if there is a strap style hanger (like the driver side) that can be bought cheaply to replace whats there?

try tighening the spare tire and checking the lever for the jack that is hooked to the jack on the right side!
