• Help with stuck turn signal

My right turn signal is stuck and not flashing. When i flip it up to turn right the light comes on but just freezes and doesnt flash on and off. The left turn signal is fine. What would this be? Is it some kind of switch or something?

Hey Will...
Yeah, I'd say that it is a switch problem in just that one position. I have a pretty good electronics background and If you have some electronic contact cleaner, you might try shooting some of it, not too much, up there. There is one called "Blue Shower". It or its generic equivelant is available at most Radio Shack stores. Depending upon the year and usage of your particular car, that switch could be subject to some dust, or just gummy from the elements. The spray cleaner is a good start to see if you can free up the switch and get it working again before you begin to dig around in the steering column assembly. Even if it doesn't work, its great to have around for other household electrical cleaning....switches, contacts and so on. Now, I don't propose to know it all, or even very much for that matter, so maybe another one of our friends out there has some other ideas....anybody?

Will, I just re-read your post and you might want to check your front and rear bulbs even before that...it could just be a burned bulb.

The light comes on fine it just doesnt flash on and off. I had an old bronco and it did the same thing and it ended up being some kind of switch that only costed about $15. I havent driven my car in about 4 days and its been raining alot so i guess something could have just gotten wet.

I was just wondering if anyone had the exact same thing happen. I would like to get it fixed tomorrow because i am about to have to take about a 600 mile trip to Tampa. Any other help would be great.

its usally a burnt out bulb. and it could also be the housing that the bulb goes into. that might be broken. like me.

I just went out to look at the turn signal again. The light comes on the right front but doesnt flash and nothing comes on the right rear. The parking lights work fine and the right turn signal indicator on the dash is just frozen. Wouls this still be a burnt out rear bulb?

ummmmmmmm........... yeah. if it doesnt come on. it doesnt work. it doesnt flash because its designed to do that so you know that a bulb is burnt out.

I would agree that it is the bulb. (Be sure and see if water some how got in and caused the bulb to go out)

10-4 on the water, saved1. the right rear taillight on my 96 bird has a pretty substantial crack in it (gettin'ready to change it out) and it is forever a headache with the moisture problem. electricity+water=
