Is the seal around the rear window supposed to be a single piece? I ask because the seal (assuming that what I'm talking about is the seal) around my 95's rear window has the seal interrupted by a small piece in the corners and they are basically on there by friction. It seems that crud gathers in this area every time I go to wash and I was thinking about getting some kind of trim adhesive to glue these buggers back together. I am explaining myself right?
Am I going about this wrong or what?

I thought this black crud was the glue, and that those black plastic trim pieces were sliding down, thus exposing the glue. You could scrape it ALL off (big job), but I just sort of left it ... didn't want to scrape off what seals out the rain.

Any idea what kind of glue I should use (assuming I should use glue)? I have some 3m black super weatherstrip adhesive I've used on the door seals of my truck at one time. Think this might work? If not what should I do?
Surely there are other people out there with this problem. :(

I have this problem too... but it doesn't leak (yet) so I tend to ignore it. I will scrape it all off and reseal one of these days. Has anyone done this with good results?
Heck, mine doesn't leak either hutch. It just tends to look bad right now and trying to clean it just means that I lose even more adhesive later. Now if could only repair what there is left....

I don't think the strip is a seal. (at least on the front and corners.)
I've seen Lots of cars with that piece on top and the pieces on the sides (the corners) missing.
Since that's safety glass back there, I guess it's just to keep rocks from chiping it. I would say it's okay to remove the corners, because I've seen cars without them.
Personaly, I would remove them, clean the gunk out and get some high strength epoxy and glue them back on.

P.S. mine are gunky too, but it's nasty all the way around, so I just leave it alone. If I ever start going to shows or whatnot, I might try to fix it. For now; I've got better things to worry about.
Maroon 1995 Camaro
No mods yet...
Lucky to have found this site!
Its a bigger problem I think for southern guys, I did some research, cuz it got reall bad on my friends 94 z28, but the glue was tested near the plant, in Canada, so not very well suited for Flroida or other harch sunny conditions, mine has the black gritty stuff but not bad, but my freinds z28 his black piece was coming off.
I read that you should clean up both peices and to use some silicone sealant, kinda like the blue RTV stuff but Clear, its supposed to handle high temps.
You pretty much described the "black gritty gunk" to a T, Eric. I can pull off the little corner pieces by hand if I want. Now the question is, should I just remove the trim (assuming it's safe to do) or what kind of glue should I use to put it back on without having the same problem later?

Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
