Well, it might be the gage in the dash...but that is rare. My gage did that under warranty and it was the fuel sending unit. The sending unit is in the tank which is integral with the fuel pump. My fuel pump was changed two weeks ago (it failed again!!). Part was $345 and labor $230 because they have to drop the rear axle to get to the tank. Total cost $625 out the door. I would use your trip odometer unless your fuel pump starts acting up. The cost is not worth it just for the gage.

00Firebird, how did they have that part? A GM dealership replaced my whole fuel pump a couple years ago, they said the sensor and pump was one unit. Did they still have to drop the axle and tank?

well, at least at my dealership, they have a parts area and the guy can go through the computer and basically order any part that comes off the car.

as for the latter, im not sure, I'm having it installed at a different place because he's only charging around 50 to install it

wasn't there a post about an "access panel" that you can cut up on the rr shelf to gain access to the pump, so you don't have to drop the tank??? Anyone know what I'm talking about??
