  • Abnormal Oil Consumption?

It has been almost 2 years since i bought my 2000 Camaro. Every other month i change my oil and filter(which is equal to about every 2500 miles for me). The problem seems to be a loss of about half a quart during this time. I check my oil level every other week. The first time i check the oil, it is right where it should be, at the "full" mark. But each time after that it seems to be slighty less, to the point where it is half way between the "add" and "full" marks right before i do the next oil change.
Now i have heard that some oil consumption is perfectly normal. What about half a quart every 2500 miles?
I do most of my driving on back roads with some time spent on the highway too. So there really is not too much stop-and-go driving. When i bought the car, it was in good mechanical condition. Since i have been the owner, i keep the Camaro very well maintained, almost too well maintained i think sometimes... if that is even possible. I am very obsessive when it comes to vehicle maintance. I only use Valvoline's DuraBlend Motor Oil in my Camaro. Actually, i use Valvoline's complete line of DuraBlend lubricants. I normally use 10W-30, but during the winter months i switch to 5W-30.

Has anyone else had, or heard of, this problem?
    Is some oil consumption normal?
I do not think i have anything to worry about, or do i? My car does not smoke. What do you guys think?

I normally use the Durablend also, although I run 5w30 year-round. I've found that I get worse gas mileage on the 10w30.

Half a quart between oil changes doesn't seem excessive, as long as it doesn't continue to get worse.

that seems perfectly normal to me. If I romp on it here and there, I can burn up to a quart between changes.

Yup--that's about normal for me too. I use Mobil 1 10w30, and I go through about a quart or so as well...

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I know some oil loss is normal, but i was not sure what was considered "normal" for our 3.8L.
