  • fuel pump whining...

It has started recently. At first I thought it was gear whine. I discarded that idea after I realized it only happens when I'm on the throttle and at higher speeds. I'm fairly positive it's stock but not sure what the deal is. What does this mean?

Normally if the fuel pump is buzzing it does it all the time, but unless it's really loud you'd only notice it at slower speeds. Have you changed the fuel filter recently?

If the noise only happens when you're on the throttle at highway speeds I'd tend to suspect something in the drivetrain over a fuel pump. How's your differential fluid level? Could very well be a carrier or axle bearing. Pull the cover and check for excess metal shavings on the cover magnet.

My fuel pump started whining 3 weeks ago...I had the car towed 5 days later dead at the side of the road...$625...sucks.

I agree with FunkZ, the whine I had you could hear at idle, just sitting in the driveway or at a light. It was constant and didn't change under throttle conditions. The fuel pump is always running so if the noise comes and goes depending on how much gas you give it I doubt it's the fuel pump.
