  • RPM's in idle

My firebird is idling a little rough... can't figure out the problem. Do y'all's cars idle @ 1000 RPM???? This seems a little high and I don't know anyone with an F-body to compare to. Thanks for any help!

Mine will idle at 700 rpms once it gets warm. It's not stock though.

mine idles at 1025 when cold
        725 when warm

this is all w/ out a/c
        2001 auto

idling at 1k when the car is warm (even though it should back down before the car is completely warmed up, lets just say warm is when the temp needle is right under 200 deg), is a tad high. Why it would do that, I really couldn't tell you off the top of my head.

              Mine always idles at 1000.
              Perfectly smooth, though.

Keep in mind that the stock tach's are not that accurate. My tach shows that I idle at 1000, but a tech2 scanner shows the true RPM to be around 700-750.

mine idle's at around 900 according to the tach, I don't trust the tach to be that accurate though..

98 manual w/FRA and K&N.. and I think I may have some carbon buildup on the throttle plate, not allowing it to close properly, not sure about that one though...

Becareful! It might be just a stinky tach! Mine SAYS it idles at 900 or so, on the dot! But when I went to autozone to test out my alt., on their testing thing it was idleing like 725-735!
