  • How easy is it to replace my rear HO2S?

Ummm....How easy is it to replace the oxygen sensor just behind my cat? Was thinking I could do it myself. Anyone have some good pointers?

    Thanks.

Get the adapter for your socket wrench. Makes it real easy to change, except that it may be on there pretty tight. ;)

May be cheaper to just get an O2 sim, though.

      Thanks for the post.

Do O2 sims install the same way? Are they better anway?

That O2 sensor isn't needed by the car. If it goes bad, you could just install a simulator so the computer thinks it's working perfectly. You would then just leave the sensor installed so there's no leak. A simulator is very easy to install, but it may cause you to fail emissions testing if they see it (if you have testing).

Why do you think the sensor is bad?

the o2 sensor behind the cat is just there to tell you if the cat goes bad. It shouldn't have any say so in your fuel mixture. If it goes bad all you should get is a light. At least this is the way I understand that particular o2 sensor works.

If your car is stock and you are not planning any wild MODs and you KNOW the O2 sensor is bad, just replace it.

However, what makes you think it is bad?

What makes me thing its bad?

Well, the SES light came on and it spit out the code P0146 which is:

HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 1 Sensor 3

I'm thinking...before I replace the O2 sensor I'm gonna have a full diagnostic done on my car. There's a GM dealer that will do it for $50.

Yep, that looks like it might be bad. If you plan on moding the car, a sim is a quick easy way to fix this problem. Not sure about emissions in Ohio but if you hide it good, I would think you will pass. Good luck.
