  • SES p0171 (2 hits) and p0174 ????

    So i got some gas and drove home yesterday and on the way i got this stupid SES light on. Fuel System too lean BANK ONE and BANK Two.

    History:
    installed whisper lid 2 nights ago. Had already done silencer delete. cut the air box. didn't cut the flap over the radiator yet.
    installed the jet chip stage 2 about 3 weeks ago. (could this have caused it?? i like what it does for $75. raises the shift points, better throttle response sounds kinda meaner/throttly)

    My friend's Thunderbird had that code when there were vacuum leaks in the PCV system. It also idled pretty rough. Are you having any other symptoms?

      nope.. every thihng else seems ok .. runs fine too. just that pesky ses light .

        I would guess the Jet chip is the problem. I have a whisper lid and have never had any codes. Otherwise just give the engine a look over for unhooked hoses, wires, etc.

          ok .. so how do i reset the codes so i know that the problem is gone after i remove the jet chip.
          does the removing the positive +ive battery cable for an hour work ??/

            Yup...disconnect the battery for a while. Try one thing at a time and do that and you'll find your problem.

              When you have lean codes for both bank 1 and bank 2 you typically either have a vacum leak somewhere or you mass airflow sensor is dirty or getting ready to go south for the winter. You could also possibly have a fuel problem but you said there was no noticiable lack of performance. If you want to reset the pcm disconnect the negative battery cable first and then the positive and then hook the 2 cables together for about 5 minutes(make sure they don't touch the battery) then reconnect them, positive first and then negative.

                kool . i'll give it a shot, l1tech, once the temp goes obove 0 here. thanx .. i'll keep you posted as to to the results. i may have yanked the maf cable or something when i was installing the whisper lid.

                  orighty then ... i got my pcm reset from autozone, drove back out to go home frikkin light is back again ... i get up this morning to go to work and the light is out. i drive about 25 miles and the light stayed off. this is so frikkin weird. any ideas ... i did notice that the rubber boot that goes on the TB was a little off on the TB connecter side but i dont thinkn it was enough to leak air. could that cause a lean reading both in bank one and two ? can any one post a pic or URL to a MAF pic.

                    Went out for lunch and the damn light is back on ... can anyone tell me what else would have caused this plz .....

                      since the weather has been nicer all weekend long the loght has been gone. Seems like when it was cold (really cold, ice storms cold, pretty close to single digits temp) the light remained on, but as soon as it warmed up the light was gone .... lets c what happens when it cools back down.. has any one heard of this before ???

                        I finally broke down and bought me an elmscantool from www.digimoto.com not bad for a 100 investment and found out that my intake temp is stuck @ -32 (or -38 i can't remember exactly but its in 30s range) i guess this must have happened when i put the whisper lid in. how can i tell if its the wring or the actual sensor that goes in the lid.

                        i also had a random misfire code happened to me earlier today ... car shuddered and then shook for about the 2 minute drive i needed to get to my friend's place. would moisture in the pcm would cause this ?? what else could be the cause of this ?????

                        any help appreciated .
