I installed my plugs, wires and new coils and this was my first time on the plugs and they are a pain. A few were okay (like 2) but the rest were just a class on ploblem solving and how to get my big hands in those small areas. And I had help. Total work time was like 3.5 hours and it hurt.

Haha, I feel your pain! I did my wires and plugs today and I wonder WHY the EGR, alternator, and the alternator brackets all had to be in front of plugs 3 and 5 on my car. Tiny little space to work that socket, eh? Oh well, only took about 2.5 hrs and that was including the little Mrs bringing me lunch. Car runs sooooo much smoother now, maybe it's all psychological... :DCheck out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II

Oh my car definatly runs better. All 3 of my coils were fried and my car sputtered and hesitated. So its run the way its supposed to. Nice clean shifts too.Mods: SLP CAI, SLP loudmouth, Removed MAF screen, Remote Fog lights, Taillight Blackouts, \"Firebird\" in third brake light all on Kumho 245/50 R16\'s

whoa! 3.5 hours to change spark plugs, wires and coils??? You should do it again..........and again........and again, till you get the hang of it, in no time you should be down to like 30 mins. at least you did it yourself and didn't send to a mechanic to do all that bs for nothin' ---Niño---
95\' silver 5 spd

Yeah, crack open a beer and enjoy what your work had brought you, a better running car and sore knees! Well, that's what I got out of the deal :D
Hope you used extra dielectric grease on the boots and anti-seize on the plug threads! Yeah, my car was trying to bite me too, but I had used the "fastfit" Mechanix gloves and they took the brunt of it.Check out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II

My son in law and I tackled it a few months back and it was a d-r-a-g! We had to drop the exhaust and squeeze into impossible places. Are some of you folks saying that there is a way to get to all the plugs without that rigirmarole? Please enlighten this greenhorn to any tricks you may know. Your kindness will indeed be remembered on my next plug/wire venture. Yeah when i first got my car i installed Accel Plug wires and they were PITA to install...even though we only got 6's they're still a pain to get to becuase half the engine is underneath the cowl. It took me about an hour of workin my butt off, a few minor burns on my arm from the exhaust manifolds and a broken spark plug...to do all my plug wires and change all the plugs.

Well, from the way it sounds we 3.4L guys have it easy. I didn't see what would be so hard about the whole thing, except trying to pull old spark plug wire boots off of the plugs (I swear the wires were never changed out before). I think I was in the "Flying Lotus" position a few times trying to manuever for enough leverage on those wires... :DCheck out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II

its 'grammar' not 'grammer'.
anyway yes its a long and tedious job. some plugs from above and some from below. just plain annoying. what were you thinking gm? it tight enough that i cant always use the torque wrench. i dont like "finger tight" + 1/4 turn.
anyway, dielectric grease is a good idea. the anti-seize is optional on our engines--cast iron block with steel plugs. just a little motor oil on the threads.

Anyone have nasty white chunks of dried up stuff on the inside of your wire boots when changing them out? I had tons of it, and I was wondering if it was the factory dielectric grease that had gotten "ripe"?

Yes dried up die grease, very common.Thats why esp. on late model F-Bodys its wise to check the plugs & re-grease the wires at least every 4 years or say 40K, or so.To the "Pastor" ,next time you do this proceedure ,first say a prayer & have our Lord Jesus exercise the deamons from these beast F-Bodys!Seriously plugs 3-5 & 6 are easiest from the bottom.Plugs 1-2-4 not too bad from the top.To disconnect plug wire 3 you have to kind of "flip" it off at the boot 90* inside corner.Unless you have a crowfoot you won't be able to torque no.6.For 6 use the spark socket that has a 3/4 hex at the end ,use an open end to r&r.geocor
