I just got home from work and when I turned on my car and tried to go, it stalled a little at first, then it shakes whenever I take off and seems to be running around half the power the car has. I can rev it up all the way and it sounds fine. I saw the SES light flashing. I have just hit the 3,000 mile mark to make an oil and just got my new ignition cylinder in, but other than that i can't think of anything. CAn anyone help before i take it to the dealer and get ripped off.
i guess i will take it to autozone or mechants for an oil change and get my plugs and wires checked, i hope it has nothing to do with ignition, i just spend 400 bucks fixing my ignition cylinder and i don't feel like spending anymore on another ignition thing.
thanks. if there is anything else u guys can think of please post it up.
well, here is what has happened so far. I took my car to my friend in Tyson's he told me that it was nothing with the spark plugs or wires, it might be the catalytic converter clogged, but he said i need to get the computer scanned. Well he asked his friend in Tyson's GM/pontiac, that bastard wants 85 bucks, so i said no. I've been looking for a place just to scan my computer, they will all charge about 66 - 75 bucks just for scanning. The dealer in Leesburg says it might be 44 bucks or more. Well i called everyplace in the phone guide, I found one place that said it will take 30 mins to do and will charge me 35 bucks. Now, i've heard you guys in the forum say that Autozone does it for free. Autozone is 30 miles from my hosue and about 50 miles from Tyson's where my friend works, I am afraid to drive the car that far and not make it to Tyson's to get it fixed. I tried calling Autozone but their number here is disconnected and the operator does not know any other numbers. I just want to know, any other places where i can get it scanned free?? Will Autozone really do it for free and can i rely on their machine to have the codes correct?? thanks for the info

they plug it into the computer in your car, so it gives them a number. you remember the number and then come here and look it up. don't ask them to look it up, they're code definitions are always wrong--they told me that my power steering was going out on a p1651 code, and we all all know that's a fan 1 relay code. i had just installed the manual fan switch and got that code and was like "WTF! how did i set off a power steering code with a fan switch." anyway, they will do it for free too, just go in and tell them you have a "whatever your car is" and you need it to be scanned with the obdII scanner. they'll be more than happy to do it.
i will just say that i went autozone 10 minutes ago and got mine done for free, and yes i called because i didnt belive it either, there are two things though and you have to have the ses light on and you have to have a 96 or earlier. well hope that helped :D

liquid, i think u mean 96 or later, cause u have a 97. lol
Change the plugs. Whoever's friend was full of beans. Mine did the same exact thing. I had to puter scanned and it said MAF sensor. I said not a chance so I took it in and it was old plugs/wires. While they were at it they did the fuel filter as well. I can almost garanty that is what it is.

I'd say you would have won the 50 bucks bet. Autozone told me it was code P306, or as some of you say P0306, cylinder 6 misfire. I hope its just hte spark plug or wires, not the coils. But I guess my friend must be an idiot for not catching that ****. I am still curious though, why did my exhaust rattle so much after I drove the car to autozone and on the way back too. I started rattling after like 15 miles or so.

my exhaust did lots of funny things when it happened to me. i had multiple misfires though so it was even worse! sounded like a boat driving around on the road...

thanks for all the help. I just got my plugs cahnged, details were posted on WHAT iS code P0306 started by liquidcool. The exhaust is not rattling no more, but it doesn't matter anyways cause i am aobut to change that **** in about two weeks when i get my catalytic converter by mail.
