does anyone know what the service # for a 97 y87 pcm is? i need to know cause the guy at the wrecking yard won't tell me, he says i have to know it. any help here would be appreciated.
By service number, do you mean GM part number? If so, it is 16227797. If you buy this part new from the dealer, it will need to be programmed at the dealer and I believe that they will only program it according to you VIN #. Best bet is to get one from the junk yard.
The computer is located under the hood, passenger side, near the firewall in the far back right part of the engine bay.

GM does not sell pre-programmed ECM's. They will program it at the dealer when you purchase it...more than likely they will program it based on the vehicle's VIN number.
