• how do I increase my mpg

I'm all done modifying the parts for my car, now I want to make my car more efficient. How do i increase my miles per gallon and make my fuel system more efficient?

All depends on what kind of driving you do. On the highway just cruising on a flat road the only way to improve is change your gears. If you have to go up hills a lot then intake and exhaust will help. I got my best gas mileage with the free ram air, clean air filter, silencer taken off and American Thunder 3" catback.

If your talking about city driving, driving style has the most effect on that. Since my exhaust is rather loud at 3,500 rpms, I won't take it up that high much in town and has caused me to get better gas mileage.

Hypertech will probably cause you to use more gas.
CAI and cat-back usually help.
Other then that, unless your plug wires/plugs are old or bad, that won't help.
Just keep your rpm's down, always use the highest gear possible for the speed. Try to use Cruise control and don't vary your speed much. Don't floor it either ;) .

My 00 Camaro got 25 mpg's backroad/city
My 02 WS6 gets like 19-20 backroad/city
But I stop and go a lot and give it some gas playing around if the road opens a little. The WS6 used to get 21-22 backroad/city, but the 4.10's knocked it down a little .

Fuel economy is most affected by how long and fast you accelerate and the # of times you do so. The next most important aspect is how long you idle since you're using fuel and not going anywhere. The third set of aspects encompass things like aerodynamics, body weight, rolling resistance of tires, and so on.

Its difficult to achieve more fuel economy through modifying anything other than fuel pedal pressure. The beloved tornado for example does increase fuel economy, but only because it acts as an air restrictor. Less air = less fuel = less power = more miles per gallon. Yes, less power.

You could always drive your Mom or Grandmother around town for practice. Mine always complains that my car is too loud though and won't even ride with me. Just anouther quality about my exhaust that I love.

As far as the mods to get better gas mileage, I would thinking anything that would help your motor run more efficent(intake, exhaust) would help you get up hills while cruising at 75-85mph would help, anything that would let you make more power with less throttle. Also as Dominic mentioned, rolling resistance/tire preasure matters. You could always get some 5" wide 50psi tires like the EV1 had.

Dom and T-Top are right I drove almost 1000 miles this weekend and got 32.36 (479 miles 14.8 gals) and 33.9 (367miles 10.8 gals) M5 tranny and all of it was highway between 75 and 80 average speed. The only thing special was that I just changed 3 of 4 O2 sensors. Thats about it.

My car is moderately modded - Whisper Lid, the underhood SLP air induction, headers, cat, exhaust, 3.73 ratio gears, TransGo Shiftkit, Jet Stage 2 chip and I get about 340 miles on a full tank of gas - this is all highway driving. I don't think that's too too bad. I used to get more miles out of it before putting in the gears and shiftkit but I'd never go back now. It's like driving a whole different car altogether with those mods - I'll deal with the less miles per gallon.
