  • Car wont start *update* fuel problem

We replaced the alternator about a week ago and now the car wont start.
All the lights work, but when you turn the key it just keeps cranking. There is no clicking sound at all. It sounds like it wants to start but it wont turn over. Could this be the battery, starter, or something with the fuel?
What should I look for first to diagnose the proplem?

    Thanks

check all fuse and relays first then check for spark and finally fuel PSI.

you fuel pump is priming right?

to check for spark take out one plug ground it to the block and have someone crank the car. it should arch.

check for fuel you need fuel PSI gues if you dot have one at lease see if there is fuel in the fuel rail after you prime it buy pushing on the sharader valve

buy not turning over you mean mnoing happens when you hit the key?

or does the starter just crank and crank the motor over and over? like there was no plugs in it

it just cranks and cranks over and over, but it doesn't start.
I have no idea if the fuel pump is priming. I am not mechanically good with cars.

ok you should here the fuel pump wine for about 3 seconds when you put the key to "on" then it will stop....

try to prime it few times but check all your fuse's first to make sure non are blew out...

then try and check for spark

She will just drive my car until we can find that the feck is going on

Well its either not getting spark or fuel.

If its getting fuel, you guys might have just flooded it out. But do what Viper said, turn the key on the on posistion and you'll hear a "wheeeeeeeen clunk" The clunk is the PCM telling the FP to shutdown because the car is not running. If you do not hear this, the FP is gone or not getting power.

A ghetto way to check to at least see if you're getting pressure is to remove the shrader valve cap on the fuel rail and stick your nail to depress the needle, and if gas comes spewing out, you're at least getting some fuel.

If you're for sure you're getting fuel, make sure all of your plug wires look good...then you can move on to see if your coil packs are good.

If you have access to a scanner, now would be a time to scan the car.

Check your fuel pump relays first (I think fuse, I can't recal right now).

Take an identical relay, say from the starter slot, and move it to the FP slot...just switch them. Now when you turn they key, and if you hear the pump prime, and if you turn the key to the start posistion and the starter doesn't do crap, you know its a simple relay.

If NOT...most likely your fuel pump has gone south. :( Sorry man.
