I am considering taking firebird subframes and reinforcing them to help stiffen up the front end a little bit, kinda like a strut tower brace, but for the lower section.

the convertables do something similar on their crossmembers, I don't fully know whether it is to stiffen it to make up for lack of top, or what. Idunno really, I am putting a v8 into my v6 and the only k-member I could get my hands on was a v8 conv. I compaired it to a v6 coupe k-member, and there are 4 bolted on bars. I am gonna chat with the Ford SVT engineers on monday and see what the deal is with them. I know they aren't gm, but I work with them so hey, why not. I'll post what they say

Now that i have voted here are my comments. I think that anyplace you can find to stiffen the structure of the car is going to show a all around benefit.
However, you have to be carefull with bracing/strenghening. Stiff and light = good. Stiff and heavy as a truck = bad. This is even more important with unsprung weight.
