  • cooling switch mod and SES

Anyone think is is possible for the cooling fan switch mod to throw a SES code. I installed the manual fan switch the other day and began getting SES light that same day, reset the computer and the light comes back next time I restart my car. The fan switch mod is installed right and works correctly.

I am gonna get the codes scanned eventually when ever i drive all the way to Autozone, but does anyone have any ideas or is it just something totally unrelated.

The light comes on when the engine temp is below normal operating temp. This is caused by using the switch. Drive around for a while and the light will go away.

Naw it isn't from that. I dont have a lower thermostat, it is still the stock 195, so that is the normal temp the car is supposed to be, and it does operate at, the switch mod only keeps temps from rising much above 195 when siting still.

I'm going to get the codes scanned today, so I will narrow this problem down. Maybe it will actually my 02 sensors so I will have more of a reason to spend a million dollars buying some new ones.

Got codes scaned and it is 1651 and 1652. Cooling fan relay errors.

This happens if the fans are turned on maually, via the manual fan switches, when the car is off and left on when starting the car. The PCM checks to see that the fans are turned off when the car is started. If it notices they are on when the car is started a error is thrown and the SES light comes on.

Problem solved, dont have fans on when car is started, or I'll have to clear the damn code everytime to get the light to go off.

Oh and to fuss about Autozone, the book that comes with their rinky dink code scanner didnt even have this code it in. SO, the guy there was clueless and tried to sell me some O2 sensors cuz he swore that is what the error was from. Well I came home and the codes were in my Chilton's manual for the fan relays.

Dont always believe everything they tell you at the Autoparts stores, they are just trying to make a buck like everyone of us.
