  • Help, car whines under acceleration?

During acceleration there is a whine coming from the car that increases with acceleration. Cornering seems to make it worse. The noise disappears almost immediately after I put the clutch in (it sounds like it's winding down for another half second or so then is completely gone) so I don't think it's the gears. Could it be the throw out bearing in the clutch? Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Is it a very loud whine or a more distant whine. It kind of sound like the power steering whine, but I don't know why it would stop when you push the clutch in....

I doubt it's a power steering problem. I had the pump replaced about 3k ago.

Is the fluid at the right level? Lack of will cause a whine. But if it goes away when you push in the clutch its something else.

Does it go away when your stereo is off?

Nope, it only goes away when the clutch is in... It's not the power steering pump, it's a different sound, a "smoother" whine.

I doubt it for two reasons. First, though I had new gears installed recently they haven't made a bit of noise (this whine started a month or so after they were installed). Second, it goes away when the clutch is in, wouldn't gears whine all the time?
