Is it possible to have misfiring and not generate an SES light?

My car is idle very strangely right now. The idle speed constantly increases, and decreases rather than staying steady. It's caused a vibration somewhere in the exhaust and is killing my performance.

I'm wondering if one of my plugs isnt' on the fritz...?
