    This may be the wrong forum but here goes....

    Are there any special tools that i need to change the fuel filter on my car? I don't exactly want it blowing up in my face or losing too much gas. thanks...

    No, no special tools needed. You just need a wrench (I forget what size) and a LOT of rags. The one end of the filter is kinda like an air hose fitting, you pull a metal sleeve back and it pops off. The other end requires 2 wrenches&gt; one to hold the filter still, and the other to turn the nut. Have some rags handy and try not to have your face directly below the filter while performing this or you'll know what 87 Octane tasts like...like I did.
    Oh, this may qualify as a "DUH", but DON'T SMOKE!!!!!

      Will i need to jack the car up on some jackstands or can i just get to it on the ground? Also, can i catch any leaky gas into a CLEAN bucket? and put it back in the tank?

        you dont need tons of rags just one...just run your car till its basically out of gas. then get the wrench and change it. yes some is going to come out but just get a pan to let it run into

          Try taking off your gas cap and then releasing pressure at the shcreder valve on the fuel rail.(make sure you tuck some rags under the valve. When you take off the filter at least it won't spray on you but you will get some that drips out.

              Is there a way to keep the fuel leakage to a minumum?

                You can pull the fuse for the fuel pump & start the car for a few seconds until it starts to stall, then shut it off. Supposedly this will get the fuel out of the lines. Whenever I used to do one, I just took the gas cap off whatever car I was working on & went to work. BTW, you'll beed a crescent wrench & a 5/8 open-end wrench for the job. Just make sure before you start the car you put the fuse for the fuel pump back in, & then turn the key to the ON position (don't start the car) to prime the fuel system. Do this once or twice, then you can start the car.
