• My engine turned off.......

Here's the scoop:

I had just gotten out of watching Star Wars on Saturday and was bored of my a$$. I went out to some little farm road and took my bird to the limits to see.. mainly just curious. Well when I hit about 118 or so the car shut off on me because the power steering was gone and the oil pressure was at zero and my check gauges light was on. So. I guess this is normal right?? The car works fine I just thought the car would stall out at 118 or so.. Fill me in? I know I'm not the only one that has ever done this.

This isn't normal. I had my 2000 do that one time but I was racing with my airbox off and the engine lost air because of the vacuum put on it.

There is a top speed fuel cut-off at 118mph.

It won't let you go faster.

118 is max you can go, but the engine shouldnt shut off and give you all those weird errors like power steering going, and oil and stuff... the car just doesnt pass 118...

maybe bought a speed limit remover, and it's installed in a wrong way?

nah some factory installs of the speed limiter are like this -- my car, when you hit 108 mph (speed limit for 1994 3.4L Camaro Manual) the whole engine shuts off.

I little bit more dangerous to do 118 w/o power steering I think. At least if you had a stick I suppose you could just start back up while you'e going, huh?

Just to clear one thing up. The top speed limiter for the 3.4L is 118. I know for a fact. I used to have the speed limiter removed before my car was hit in a mall parking lot and I had to have my PCM reprogrammed. The speed limiter for the 3.4L is 118. I verified it this past weekend on the interstate and I had previously checked it with a friend who clocked me going 118 at least for the automatic that is.
Your car shouldn't die like that their is something wrong if it does that. I would definantly have it checked out soon before anything serious/costly happens.

k man -- whatever you say, and when i was on I-40 and hit 108 mph three times my engine DIDNT shut off and the lights on the dashboard DIDNT all come on. sure thing.

just remember not all cars are the same. the manual 3.4L (5 speed) is limited at 108 mph, the Auto 3.4L varies from 115-120 mph (the limiter) - so dont tell me all 3.4's hit 118 and shut off. mine doesn't, which means that not all of them do huh? just remember that.

anyway...

I hate generalizing statements (if they arent true).

Why don't you try reading the whole post before you open your mouth. I say "118 at least for the automatic that is". Try reading it next time and not be a sarcastic a**. "k man"
