If you have engine temps of 210 when highway driving you have other issues.

If its' only in-town stop and go in hot weather, get the lower thermo/fan switch combo!

Works wonders for me at the track and in hot city driving.

ps...dont' buy a fan switch, make one. There are TONS of instructions aroudn this site and the net. Much cheaper.

Ok new to the Camaro world wit hmy 1993 V6. (seems like a cheap fun car.) Now I have a question as to the operation of the fan turning on and off.

My fan turns on with the AC running. That seems to agree with what I have read, however if i let the car idle or even while driving with the AC off, the car gets incsanely hot approaching the red area on stock gauges (260) then the fan comes on. What is going on here? I changed the thermo (clearly not the root cause of this issue) to a 180 and i am going to install a fan switch. I checked the realy it seems to work so what is left to check here?

      Thanks for any help.

PS Not all fan cool radiators air cooled motors use fans to cool themseleves. (Given they did not work to well so cars liek the 911 went to oil coolers in the front wheel wells.)

Hmm no replies to my question...

I will attempt to reformat it.

Does the temperature gauge recive an independent signal from the Engine Coolant Temp. sensor?

I ask this because my fans will turn on but only as an emergency (temp up around 250) then turn of around 210 or so? (Without AC runnning, with AC no temp issues.) I think a sensor has gone out.

        Please assist.

I never said I knew everything. And I never asked about a Chevelle either. My question to you was "Have you ever looked under YOUR hood", referring to an f-body, which is the car in question here. Once again, I don't know everything. But I knew damn well what I was talking about in this case, so step off.

The only time either of my Camaros got to 250 was when the 97 overheated due to a blown gasket. AC on or not, in the city it doesn't get higher than the middle, which equals 210-220.

Check coolant level. Check the wiring between the gauge and the sending unit. Check the fuses.

Ground the wire to the sending unit with ignition on. If the gauge deflects full scale, the circut and gauge are fine, the problem is the sending unit.

            Blower motor:
Check the fuse marked HVAC and all connections in the circut for loosness and corrosion.

Got this right from the Hayes manual.

Hmmm I checked all those... everything seems to check out.

One 3.4 question about the sending unit....

In the Haynes manual it say the sending unit is by the driver side coil packs neare the power steering resivoir...

I bought a ECT and it appears to be more simalar to the sender near the Thermostat. I disconnected both jsut to check and niether had any effect on the temp gauge (which appears to function normally). That is where I am stuck.

                Stock Cooling Fan Temperatures:
                Low Speed On: 227°F
                Low Speed Off: 218°F
                High Speed On: 235°F
High Speed Off: 228°F (from archieve)

It appears as though my problem may lie in the low speed fan operation. cause at high temps the fan comes on and cools engine but then turns off again... and cycles like mad...

Haynes manual says 95 and earlier 2 fans.. I have only one... any help on why no low speed operation? (I am Assuming that with AC on fan runs at high speed.)

Ok after playing with the thing for the day I think that I had/ have air bubbles in my coolant lines.

The manual does not seem to mention how to bleed the air out. Is there a way to bleed the coolant system on a 3.4 car?

On the 3.8s there is a bleeder on the pipe leading to the thermostat housing. Look around there.
